A Palace, two beer halls and a museum.....

We further indulged in Ludwig's designs and passed time in beer halls. But, of course we did need to entertain child and do a bit of museum exploration.

Ludwig's, Schloss Linderhoff, was his only finished palace, so naturally he lived there before being hauled away and declared unfit to rule. The palace was magic and we loved seeing it - that said, I would have liked to have seen more of it such as the service areas.

Once we returned to Munich and sorted our the car return etc, it was time for some more brown juice. Teagan seems to be all happy with a couple of hours drawing, reading, and iPodding while Ross tests out the juice offerings...last night it was the Augustiner Brau Haus.

Then the big hit museum, Deutsches Museum, possibly the biggest Science and Technology museum in the world (I am not sure of my facts so hence, I use the word possibly). Exploring it was an impossibility as we spent near on two hours in the Kids Kingdom, where a certain someone was blown away! There was plenty of water and noise involved, so wet snow overalls came in very handy...she then wandered the rest of the museum in only thermal underwear as did a lot of other children. We did get to see a few sections: computers, aviation, measures and weights, surveying and of course Food Technology. That was the day done for!

Ettal and real monastic beer...

After viewing the world, we dug out our car and went to see the Ettal Monastry. Yet again, unplanned, we indulged Teagan's religious fervor as she removed to budge from a statue of Jesus on the cross and then, once foreceably removed, figurines of Mary and Joseph and their baby son became her permanent stopping point - and that was fine as Ross was caught with the absolutely glorious interior of the Abbey.

As the day was nothing short of spectacular, we also chanced on a fitting early dinner in a comfortable (gloriously so) small restaurant / beer hall / cafe www.madame-pluesch.de. A couple of very pleasant hours passed, mostly so as Teagan had her eyes fixed on iPod touch (joined a while after by two young boys as cartoons don't actually need words to be funny).

I doubt there is much we can say about today! An hours walk, a 10 minute cable car ride and there it all lay....the world below us on both sides.....

A few more photos of Christmas day...

We spent the morning indoors as madam entertained herself with her Barbie fairy (how on earth did we come to that) and her fire engine (a far more appropriate gift, thanks Santa). We wandered out for a bit of sightseeing before settling into a restaurant for a late Christmas lunch.

The Christmas Goose and Santa

Santa came twice.

Mr Santa Germany came to visit all children at the dinner hotel, most children were too shy to go up to Father Christmas so the gifts were delivered to the children; not so for Teagan, who dove past her gift and up into the arms of a slightly unsuspecting Santa and in performance mode created a photo opportunity for the hotel staff. One happy little girl returned to her seat with "Max", a donkey.

We had a delightful evening listening to the Christmas story (traditional version) and then we believe a humorous version in German. Our dinner was a Christmas goose in Orange sauce..YUM!

To Teagan's immense surprise Mr Santa Germany came to visit again while she s asleep. Mum and Dad kept watch out on the balcony in the freezing cold while Teagan went to sleep. The plan worked! A lovely fire engine (Playmobil), with "constructions" in German was left at the end of her bed along with a few other interesting items to interest a hungry tum. Needless to say, one child is rather short on sleep so the remainder of the day will be interesting.

It snows and it is Christmas Eve....

Note to Oneself; never, not ever, do you indulge in a magical morning tea seated in sheepskin covered seats, undercover, with gorgeous coffee and strudel with your husband and daughter when, in direct line of sight, Said child has a direct view of a mural depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ....Grandad Ian, if only you could have been here, you would have been amused by her religious fervor!

Neuschwenstien....rather better than expected

Wow! Yes, his Highness Ludwig II may have been regarded as crazy as a five bob watch but he had one heck of a style (and creative imagination). It was rather involved getting to the castle: grumpy, sickish, post card writing kid, buses not running up the mountain and our tickets not working so it took the bulk of the day to get up there (including the must have horse ride) and we loved it.

Note to Grandma: Nan gets the postcard because Grandma goes on holidays and Nan doesn't.

Right now we are relaxing in a beer hall in Fussen that makes it's own beer, Olivenbaurs House Beer, has fabulous service, painted toilet seats (madam has made two trips in 20 minutes), and an excellent kids area where Teagan invited me to dine with her, I declined and said I would eat with Ross, Teagan's response was, "oh, I understand, it is love." We are settled in for the evening...just as long as we head back to our mountain hideout before the forecast snow begins.
